Compare technical-question workflows

A permission-aware technical interview comparison using an original task and your own reasoning.

Coding interviews vary: one may ask for a solution on a shared editor, another for architecture trade-offs or a discussion of past code. Start with the invitation's rules. Outside assistance can be prohibited even if a product can technically display an answer. Interview Coder and MagicInterview describe their current products on their own sites.

Try an original practice task#

Use a made-up function that groups support requests by customer and returns the earliest unanswered request for each. Explain the data structure you would choose, a tie-breaking rule and the tests you would run. Give both tools the same task and permitted context. Compare whether the output addresses edge cases, makes assumptions explicit and helps you explain the code in your own words. Do not treat a generated solution as proof it passed tests you did not run.

Then try a project discussion: “Why did you replace a slow query, and how did you verify the change?” That tests reasoning from your technical story bank, which may matter more than code generation for a particular role.

Check current language support, device controls, plan terms and actual output in each product before deciding. MagicInterview's server coaching requires Pro under its terms. Live interview assistance must be permitted by the assessment; use the rules guide before any live technical test.

Separate the free download from AI access#

Interview Coder’s official page, checked on 12 October 2026, describes real-time audio transcription and says AI features require a subscription even though the app can be downloaded and explored for free. MagicInterview’s free text preparation preview is available before signup; server coaching and voice practice require Pro.

For the support-request exercise, write the expected results for an empty list, tied timestamps and an already-answered request. Run generated code against those cases yourself. Try the original top-k explanation as a second reasoning exercise. This guide does not validate vendor invisibility, detection or hiring claims.
