Check microphone and shared-tab audio on Windows

A source-by-source Windows audio check for a companion coaching window and browser call.

Test the same Windows device, browser, call application and headset you intend to use. MagicInterview’s web app offers microphone listening and a separate shared-audio path on supported desktop Chromium browsers; it does not certify every Windows/browser combination.

First establish your microphone#

Select the intended input in Windows sound settings and allow microphone access for the browser. Test the device in the meeting application, then choose Start listening in MagicInterview and say a recognizable phrase. Check the transcript and source label. A connected headset can change the default input, so repeat this check after changing devices.

Then establish the call source#

While web listening is active in desktop Chrome or Edge, open the listening options and choose Listen to a tab instead. Select the call tab and enable the audio-sharing option in the browser picker. If no audio track is supplied, that source cannot provide call transcription. The product does not offer this shared-audio route on phone browsers or the web Safari/Firefox path.

What you observeWhat to inspect
Your voice arrives, the participant does notSelected call source and audio-sharing option
A screen picture appears, but no call textWhether the shared source includes an audio track
Audio changes after connecting a headsetWindows input and the call’s output device
Desktop call app is absent from the tab listIt is a window, not a browser tab; inspect the picker’s actual screen/audio choices

Have a consenting test participant say a different phrase and verify it in the conversation. Stop sharing after the test. For provider-specific device tests, use the Meet, Zoom or Teams guide. Keep your brief available as typed context if shared audio is unavailable.
